Retirement continues to rock for Linda Greaves. This has how her past few days have gone: • She was invited by folks at the Players’ Theatre to exhibit work in their lower gallery in September. • She has been juried into summer shows at the Venice Art Center and, most recently, Art Center Sarasota. Her piece, exhibited in Gallery 4 (“Natural Selection”) from July 18 to Aug. 23, was awarded an honorable mention. The opening reception and awards presentation was held July 18. The exhibition guide for the show states: “Each artist who submitted artwork for this exhibition cast votes for the work they felt should be included; based on the votes cast per piece, the artwork for this exhibition was chosen. Linda Greaves came home a winner after the Cotton Pickin’ Plein Air Paint Out held in Boston and Thomasville, Ga., in mid-October. The four-day event, hosted by Pines & Palms (The Georgia-Florida Artists Association), featured nearly four dozen regional artists. Out of more than 200 artworks in the event, her painting, titled “Alive and Well” (11 x 14, oil), was among 12 selected for Pines & Palms’ 2019 calendar. The calendar will be circulated and sold throughout the region. “I was so surprised and so happy about the honor,” Greaves said. “It’s very exciting.” She has been invited back to Thomasville for a painting event during the city’s 32nd annual Victorian Christmas in mid-December.

A lasting admiration for the environment

The combination of rural settings, flatlands, bush country, and coastal images feel completely comfortable to artist Linda J. Greaves. She grew up on a 900-acre dairy farm in rural Maine and as a child had many outdoor activities and chores to perform. These living experiences created a lasting admiration for the environment. Feeling completely in awe of nature, Greaves enjoys painting canvases of country scenes and coastal images. In addition, she works closely with clients to depict children at play, or professional portraits of career clientele that may originate in an office setting or capture them engaged in outdoor activity. The combination of shape and atmospheric condition in shading, sunlight and a constantly changing color, are the challenges she strives to capture. Not only is it her desire to translate the image, but it is also a process to depict the affection she has for the natural, historic moment of that setting. Greaves reflects, “Sometimes, I can actually feel the sunlight or hear the birds singing as I re-experience that landscape when viewing the finished artwork.” Painting as a child later became an avocation as Linda enrolled at the University to Maine to complete a business degree. She opened her […]

Artist Linda Greaves featured at gallery

March 21, 2018

Linda Greaves is the latest artist to join The Accidental Gallery in Boston. Her work is now featured in the gallery where she will be honored at a reception from 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday. She has, apparently, always been creative. Her parents had a watercolor in their bedroom that she painted at age five. As one of four children, Linda says, “I was always trying to achieve and I have a very broad, vivid imagination. So creating images has been my way of internally working to solve challenges or to relieve stresses. “ A painter of landscapes, Greaves has captured environmental images in the south since she moved here from Maine in 1992. The combination of rural settings, flatlands, bush country, and coastal seascapes allowed her to experience nature in a variety of forms. “The environment and countryside have always been beautiful to me and lessons learned from my family were to protect and conserve this natural beauty for its usefulness, and for others to enjoy,” she said. Using oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolors and graphite, she translates these affections to canvas in an impressionistic style. “This is most exciting for me to have my artwork featured in the Accidental […]
